Today, when I woke up, I felt giddy inside. Not just because #goldenshowergate was trending on twitter (which is hilarious), not just because I was about to watchMarco Rubio SLAY Rex Tillersonat his Secretary of State Hearing, but because today, the day afterBuzzfeed dropped a bombshellon the world, we were going to hear from our President Elect Trump in a Press Conference forum for the first time since July. What a time to be alive!!!
I first came to the information Buzzfeed posted via my very best friend Jeanette (who I credit with helping me see the light in my political ways many moons ago – thanks, Jay!!!) via text message. It was a small paragraph, but moments after reading it I felt so excited about what #blacktwitter was about to have to say.Golden Showers(because this is a thing that went viral just already showing us 2017 is shitting on 2016 day by day), and the alleged claim (this has not been verified, has not been confirmed, and cannot be deemed true *yet*), President-Elect Trump has some *umm* interesting Sexual Perversions. I mean, I am all for whatever floats your boat, but this is slightly alarming?
Now before we go into it, I want to make it very clear, over and over again, that these claims have not been validated. The media community is outraged that Buzzfeed even had the audacity to leak the information, despite the fact that Buzzfeed says and makes it very clear, that they cannot corroborate the report. Now, a political junkie and pundit (lol, jk I am not that smart) like myself is really appreciative that Buzzfeed decided to make these claims known. I have been following this story intensely since last night and there are a couple reasons why I have come to this conclusion:
1.John McCainhanded this information over to the FBI MONTHS ago. Actually, we are finding out that Media Outlets and Politicians in DC have known about this information for months, but were not able to verify the claims. Months went by without a verification, and nobody thought to tell the everyday American? Yeah, Buzzfeed did something most news outlets would not have done, and would never do. I think their motive was to let the Politicians of the world know they cannot just hold onto information like that without consequences. What if we find out it is all true (If I was a betting woman, I’d be going all in) and a months long investigation ends with our current President headfirst in the deep end of the pool with one of our adversaries. I respect Buzzfeed. It’s murky, sure, but if John McCain handed the information over thinking some parts of it might be true, we cannot know if all the parts are false.
2. Yeah, the Golden Showers bit is pretty funny. More importantly, the 35 page document shows us that President Elect Trump committed Treason throughout the campaign season. In fact, during his press conference today, he didn’t directly answer the question about people on his staff communicating with Russia. It is known, and has been confirmed, that last week Trump and Obama were briefed on the potential conflicts of interest with Russia, and despite the flip-flopping done by Trump in the last 24 hours about what he did or did not know, the defensive nature of the first 5 minutes of the press conference were very telling. I do not think innocent people go on such a defense, especially not one who is innocent. This morning our President Elect compared our country toNazi Germany, which is not only terrifying, it’s downright wrong. I have been to concentration camps, Nazi Museums, and have had conversations with people who lived through that regime, and it’s downright wrong. We are America, this is a democracy, and despite the fact that Obama’s Farewell address featured the word 5x more than the last 6 presidents combined, it is clear we are starting to forget it.
3. This whole past 2 months post-election has been sketchy AF. Not just because I never have, and never will, support President Trump, but because it feels weird. Why was this the first press conference? Why do we have a President tweeting about fake news with links to an actual fake news website? As I talked about in my last post forThe Millennial, where did our truth go? For everything to come out, in the midst of this very tumultuous transition season, it seems apt for timing but I have to believe somewhere, somehow, there is some truth to all of this. I have watched my future president use social media to openly praise a Russian Dictator & berate our current president. I have watched him call out individual people, take credit for things that had nothing to do with him(multiple times). I watched the press conference this morning, and it felt bizarre. To watch a lawyer go through our constitution and convince us that despite the fact none of Trump’s business holdings are going into a Blind trust, we should just blindly trust that it will be done ethically.
Today at the Press Conference, Trump said he felt like he was in “familiar territory” and that he used to hold Pressers everyday. That, amongst a lot of other things were blatantly false. I highly recommend clicking this link, if you have ignored all my others,by the Washington Post. Because at the end of the day, it is becoming a personal problem to determine what is and is not true. It is becoming an actual chore to make sure you are seeking out right information. Engage in conversations with people who think differently than you. Make sure you check out a website that isn’t facebook, to read links that are shared by people who might think outside of your box. And if you listen to only one thing I say, check Twitter, it is so freaking funny and full of so many gems, it’s worth it.
