Canadian artist Luke Boyd, who goes by the alias “Classified”, has delivered a deep and powerful message in his new song/video titled “Powerless.” The video itself is an ode to the indigenous women who go missing or are murdered without receiving justice.
Having wrote and produced the track himself, the video was directed by Grammy-nominated Andrew Hines, who’s most notable workings have been with the likes of Logic, Kanye, Big Sean and John Legend.
While touching on dark themes in the song, Classified deems the song some of the most important words he has written. “This song is a combination of a lot of different people’s stories that were shared with me either face to face, or through messages on social media. Thanks to everyone who helped with the song. We need to speak up for those without a voice… and not let them feel powerless.”
Director Andrew Hines even adds to the overall message of the video saying, “Powerless is more than a song, and more than a music video because it is speaking to the topic of missing women and girls in the First Nation community and the sexual abuse of women from the Maritimes to British Columbia.” Check out the video below.
