Khalid is turning into my favorite new artist of 2016/2017. I think it’s based off the fact that his words help remind me of times where I felt the exact same way. The 18-year-old singer has released a handful of singles lately, and each one touches on some sort of heartbreak he’s experience or just an overall lust for a female. “Saved” submerges us into the position of Khalid; once again building up the confidence to progress and move forward from a past relationship.
A common trend with Khalid’s music is that he starts the listener off with a strong since of nostalgia for a loved one. Though he begs and hopes that the relationship could start back where it left off, he tends to leave the listener with a confidence of knowing that he has comfortably moved on from it. And in turn, I believe that if anyone is going through the same circumstances currently, Khalid wants to send that reaffirmation that you’ll be able to move past it as well.
An 18-year-old that’s well above his years, that’s for sure.
