Toronto’s Makk Mikkael’s new release of her single and music video, “Jungle”, deals with the hardships of a stubborn person in her life. Makk states that during the process of creating the EP, she was dealing with someone who was impossible to negotiate with.
“Jungle’ represents a build up of angst and emotion that I try and vocally display throughout the track. I was around a person that drained if not stole my energy and made me question my decisions while at the same time I felt like I was unable to separate from them.”
On top of that, she references the feelings she was experiencing to those of being underwater; feeling as if she was so close to the surface to take a breath but not close enough. The track and video give off bursts of intoxicating electronic loops, vocals, and hazy visuals throughout. In the video you’ll also notice the yellow tingle, which is to be perceived as a happy color.
“I associate yellow with being light on the surface, but it has depth to it. Like my EP there’s “angelic”-like tones which stands in contrast to the lyrics and undertones of the beat/bass which seep with emotional darkness.” Have a listen for yourself below.
