Kendrick Lamar finally released DAMN on all music streaming services today and music fans literally could not contain themselves this morning. Having listened to the album multiple times today, I could not help but completely lose my shit over one particular song on the album. The song was “LOVE.” Oddly enough, it wasn’t Kendrick who impressed me on the track. No, it was singer Zacari who stole the show.
Positioned in Los Angeles, Zacari first linked up with TDE’s manager Moosa Tiffith. His most popular single on Soundcloud, “Foggy Windows” (produced by J-Louis & well known NGHTMRE) reached a whopping total of more than 500k plays back in 2015.
In 2016 the artist teamed up with TDE rookie Isaiah Rashad, having been featured on Rashad’s “Wat’s Wrong.” It was after the release of Rashad’s album, The Sun’s Tirade, did Zacari finally link up Kendrick Lamar himself. After Kendrick heard Zacari on Rashad’s album, he knew he had wanted to meet Zacari. Zacari played four songs of his for Kendrick and the one that Kendrick ended up liking the most was LOVE. Personally, LOVE. is one of the best songs on the album because the song is a redefined genre of it own. It’s fucking beautiful. Zacari sits at just over 11k on Soundcloud. Today we must give thanks to TDE records for exposing us to yet another incredible talent. Listen to the collab between Kendrick and Zacari below:
