Ruben Young pairs up with Odd Future’s Hodgy Beats to drive home a 90’s reminiscent track that pretty much every millennial could co-sign on. The song is titled “Rachel Green” and, yes, it is inspired 100% by the fictional character Rachel Green played by Jennifer Aniston from the widely popular TV show Friends.
The thought behind the track gets an A+ in my book and the music video is exactly what it should be, both Young and Hodgy’s faces plastered on all the scenes that Rachel Green is in. It’s pretty hilarious to be honest.
In regards to the song’s concept, Young believes everyone had a teenage dream girl/guy growing up. Whether it was Topanga Lawrence (I had to pause this blog to go back and admire her because she was definitely my favorite), Kelly Kapowski, Hillary Scott or, Rachel Green.
“Rachel Green was my girl. She just had that thing – the ‘girl next door’ with the hair, the fashion and the attitude that girls wanted to be and guys wanted to be with.”
Young says that “Rachel Green” is a raw and genuine song that was created effortlessly.
“There was nothing calculated or over thought about it. It’s simple and raw – just like the feelings you can’t help but catch for someone who reminds you of your OG 90’s dreamgirl.”
Facts, indeed. Check out the single and music video below.
