I can never get enough of The Weeknd’s music. If you’re still riding with him from the days of House Of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes Of Silence, you are truly the real MVP’s. You guys are the day ones of The Weeknd’s music. I could go into this more but for the sake of the post, I want to focus on the current music and visuals off this short film.
Off first listen, I genuinely felt like I was back in his old music for a bit. Obviously, the production is quite the upgrade from his earlier stuff, but he takes us back to some of his days of pain and relatability in the opening tracks of the video. Lyrics like “I ran out of tears when I was 18” and others like “homeless to Forbes List,” “I’m finding ways to articulate the feeling I’m going through,” “you’re scared to be lonely.” I always gravitated to his brutal honesty.
That’s what I loved most about this guy’s music. Based off of the previews we’re given so far, I can already distinguish the features from Future, maybe Sam Smith, and the easiest one, Daft Punk – seeing as he’s already released two singles with them already.
This album gives off an alternative, groovy vibe, with heavy 808 beats, and quite frankly, I’ve been able to listen and watch this film three times now. Give this a watch and come to your own consensus of what you think of the video and the snippets of songs.
p.s. the song at 6:20 is going to be a club banger for the rest of the winter.
p.s.s. the panther in the video for Starboy and this one is the girl featured in this, aka his metaphorical new flame over Bella Hadid I’m assuming.
